The New Scoutbook: Streamlined Advancement Tracking and Unit Management

What is Scoutbook?

Scoutbook is a comprehensive tool designed to track advancements while offering much more. It includes features for messaging, forums, and tracking service hours, hikes, and camping trips, along with a robust calendar for event management. While units aren’t required to use Scoutbook, it’s a free service from the BSA that many volunteers find invaluable. Scoutbook simplifies tasks that often required multiple platforms, making it a go-to solution for organizing and managing Scouting activities in one convenient place.

The Evolution of Scoutbook

Scoutbook is continuing to evolve as an essential tool for Scouting units, and its newest feature makes it even more valuable for leaders and parents. This update allows for better integration of event calendars with personal calendars, making it easier to stay on top of troop meetings, campouts, and events. With automatic syncing, you won't miss important updates, ensuring smoother planning for both Scouts and their families. If you're not using Scoutbook yet, this feature could streamline your schedule and make Scouting even more enjoyable and organized for everyone involved.

Why is Scoutbook a better advancement tracking tool?

For starters, Scoutbook is run by the BSA, meaning it seamlessly integrates with the BSA’s registration system. When you sign up, Scoutbook automatically imports the Scouts from your council roster, and any registration updates from your council sync within 24 hours. This eliminates the need for manual data entry and keeps your roster accurate.

Scoutbook also simplifies unit management by automatically assigning key roles—like unit leader, committee chair, and chartered organization representative—who can then manage other administrator permissions. Additionally, it makes tracking a Scout’s advancement easy. Just log in, navigate to your unit’s roster, and click on the Scout’s name to see rank progress and completed requirements. It’s all at your fingertips, customized to your program.
